Recently, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) organized an event in collaboration with the Imo state government to enlighten citizens on the journey so far since the inception of the present state government in 2011. The aim of the exercise which aired on National television, was to give Nigerians an insight to the achievement of the Owelle Rochas Okorocha administration in the last five years and also judge first hand their performance. Commissioners took turns to give an account of stewardship in their respective ministries, departments and agencies.
First to take the stage was the Chief of Staff (IMSG) and Commissioner for Special duties, Hon.Uche Nwosu. In his power point presentation, the slides took us back to the state of the office buildings at the Government House. We also got to see the various demolition exercises that led to the impressive infrastructure seen across the state today like the Victory Chapel with a seating capacity of 1000 people, Imo Trade and Investment Center, Imo International Convention center and the Twin building housing the offices of the First Lady and Deputy Governor to list a few.
The Commissioner for Education in her own presentation disclosed that Free Education policy currently had about one million children enrolled. It is noteworthy to mention that in 2016, Imo state had the highest enrollment in JAMB examinations and ranked 3rd in the 2015 WAEC examinations.
