RECESSION: OKOROCHA SPLASHES N1.2BILLION ON IMO PENSIONERS

GVThe fortunes of pensioners in Imo state has turned around for good, this season,and henceforth.
This is not unconnected with the good news brokered by Governor Rochas Okorocha to begin payments of pensioners of the state immediately.

Addressing politicians in Douglas house,the governor says the decision to pay pensions became necessary after issues of fraudulent practices in the sector was sorted by Local Government Service Commission,assuring that the exercise is continuous and government will not fail on its part to take care of the aged who served the state diligently.
While lamenting the lackadaisical attitude of previous(PDP) administrations on payment of pensions,Owelle says he inherited arrears of over twenty seven months and has been ensuring quarterly disbursements since assumption of office, not until the economic downturn.
Accordingly, payments for the month of August2016 begins this week in the 27LGAs of the state while a committee to look into the backlog comprising the Pension Union & state government has been set-up to ensure government clears all the outstandings of pension arrears.
The SGI,Sir George Etche,Chief of Staff,Ugwumba Uche Nwosu,Speaker IMHA,Dr Acho Ihim,House of Assembly Members,political stalwarts attended the meeting.
