SUBJECT: THE PEACEFUL END OF THE RE-RUN POLL IN IMO
The Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has expressed delight that the re-run election in the state for Okigwe senatorial zone and the three state constituencies of Oru-East, Owerri West and Isiala Mbano had ended on a very peaceful note without any ugly incident or any notable clash between the supporters of the candidates in the election.
According to a press statement from the Governors Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuamaedo, the governor expressed satisfaction that INEC in the state had lived upto expectation by conducting successful re-run election that has been adjudged free and fair to a very large extent.
The governor equally commended the candidates in the election for showing maturity which led to the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He also eulogised all the security agencies for their outstanding roles in ensuring that the re-run poll in some parts of the state began and ended peacefully to the satisfaction of all lovers of democracy in the state and beyond.
The governor equally, to a very large degree, commended Imo people especially from the places the re-run election took place for remaining lawful, peaceful and exercising their voting right without any hitch, and assured that the trend of free and fair election in the state would be sustained at all cost.
He noted that the seed of discord which previous elections had sown among the citizens of the state because of the unsatisfactory manner the exercises had been carried out would no longer be the case because the people’s votes would always be made to be counted.
The governor thanked God for the success of the APC candidates in the re-run election.
