The has been a mighty shake-up a the Imo House of Assembly. The legislative arm suspended three of her members over their participation in clandestine meetings. The suspended members included Ngozi Obiefule (Isu, APC), Obinna Egu (Ngor-Okpala, PDP), and Lawman Duruji (Ehime Mbano, APC).
According to the Speaker, Rt.Hon Acho Ihim, “Their suspension is indefinite; they will remain suspended until a committee set up to investigate their activities turns in its report”. He alleged that the House had witnessed “clandestine, unpatriotic and selfish meetings by the three above mentioned lawmakers against the Imo State Government and the leadership of the House. He said because of them, all efforts to bring stability to the House have been futile so for that reason, he said that their return will be determined by the recommendations of the investigating committee.
Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members in the House have requested the Speaker’s permission to change occupiers of some key positions. According to the letter, the changes were necessary due to what they described as “obvious incompetence in relation to duty”.
With immediate alacrity, the new changes went into effect.
The first scape goat from the exercise, Hon. Mr. Obinna Egu (PDP, Ngor-Okpala) was replaced as Minority Leader with Ken Agbim (PDP, Ahiazu Mbaise).
Next was Hon. Mike Iheanetu (PDP, Aboh Mbaise) who was replaced with Mr Emma Orie (PDP, Ohaji Egbema) as the new Minority Whip.
Bruno Ukoha of Ezinihite Mbaise was named Deputy Minority Leader, while other positions are yet to be filled.
