The Chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya has pleaded with Nigerians to exercise patience with President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of leadership, pointing out that the president means well for the country.
He stated that with the inauguration of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the Federal Government is now set to address the socio-economic challenges confronting the country. He explained that different administrations have different approach to governance, positing that no two administrations are ever the same.
According to the monarch, who spoke in Owerri, Imo State while reacting to the caliber of ministers President Buhari swore into office last week, the new FEC members are persons of proven integrity who would assist Mr. President actualize his good aspirations for Nigeria. Explaining that leadership is not an easy task, Eze Ilomuanya opined that “it is better for Mr. President to move gradually but steadily instead of being in an unnecessary hurry and in the process, commit grievous errors in governance. Slow and steady wins the race”
Eze Ilomuanya advised that with electioneering over, everybody should fuse into one and work for the collective good of the country. He said that democracy is about the people, pointing out that the notion of “pull him down at all cost syndrome should be jettisoned by Nigerians if we must move forward as an indivisible nation”.
The Monarch described Buhari as “a disciplinarian, firm, forthright and steadfast Nigerian, who is committed to the unity of the Country”, averring
that while criticism is good for democracy and good governance, “it should however not be intended to run the government down and portray it in bad light because at the end, we all Nigerians suffer for it. East, West, North and South, we are all one Nigeria”
“As I said earlier, with FEC now in place, I am convinced that things will definitely turn around for the better. We have credible Nigerians in the FEC and mind you, Mr. President’s administration is still young. Let us give them ample opportunity before assessing them. I am nevertheless, sure that Mr. President won’t disappoint Nigerians”, Eze Ilomuanya averred.
