The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has promised to clear the salary arrears owed members of the Community Government councils in the state this week.
Owelle Okorocha who gave the promise during a meeting with members of the 637 Community Government Councils in the state, comprising the traditional rulers, secretaries of the council, women and youth leaders per community, at the International Conference Centre, Owerri also assured people of the state that government will not scrap the Community Government Council.
He restated his believe that the Community Government Council system which he established in the state is the best system of government in Africa which practically demonstrates democracy as government of the people by the people for the people. The governor expressed satisfaction that the CGC has succeeded in reducing crime and other vices in the rural areas and helped people realize their potentials and pledged to make it more effective..
Speaking on the appointments recently made by President Mohammadu Buhari, Governor Okorocha assured the Igbo that they will be given their due share of appointments very soon.
The governor also assured public servants who were still being owed any salaries that government will clear the arrears this week while pensioners with monthly take home of less than fifty thousand Naira will receive the arrears this week while those whose pensions are more than fifty thousand Naira will be paid later.
On his campaign promise of industrializing the state, Governor Okorocha said his administration will establish an industry in each of the old autonomous communities which existed in 1971 to serve the component communities created from it.
Governor Okorocha used the opportunity to introduce the new commissioner of Police in the state Barr. Fredrick, the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Pedro Awenigegba and the State Director of SSS, Mr. Francis Ejiofor to members of the CGC.
Speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Barr. Fredrick commended the state government for its crime control effort and promised that his command will ensure that the crime rate is reduced.
