The state government has noted with interest the call by His Grace, the Catholic ArchBishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Anthony V. Obinna on the Governor of the state, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to publish the accounts of the state to enable the people of the state know the financial status of the state.
The state government views the call as a patriotic one and indeed as a very serious one, having come from no other personality, than the Archbishop.
As a matter of fact, the governor and of course, the state government had taken the Archbishop’s call in good faith and would continue to appreciate him.
The truth also remains that the government has been announcing the financial position of the state since it came into power in 2011, but had only been doing that at functions and other public fora.
However, with the Archbishop’s call now, the state government is not only going to make the accounts public but will also publish the accounts for all those willing to see or have them, to do so.
In other words, His Excellency vis-a-vis the state government, most sincerely welcome the Archbishop’s call and will act accordingly without delay.
The state government under Governor Okorocha has a character and that is the character of respecting the views of the citizens of the state. And the Archbishop’s call cannot be viewed differently. We respect it and is to be positively responded to.
The government remains grateful to the Archbishop and the entire people of the state for their understanding and prayers.
