A Special Court against Kidnapping and Cultism is to be inaugurated in Imo to curb the excesses of kidnapping and cultism in the state.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim stated this during a press briefing of the three Arms of Government viz; Executive, Legislative and Judiciary after a joint meeting of the three Arms to address issues bothering on security in the State.
According to the Speaker, the Court when inaugurated would ensure that whoever is found culpable of any of the offenses stated above would be treated according to the dictates of the law.
He therefore issued yellow card to those in the business to back out from such or face the consequences.
The Hon. Speaker also used the forum to speak on the conditions of the courts in the state adding that it was resolved at the meeting that courts in the state would be renovated and those in a state of disrepair would have new buildings erected for them.
On the issue of the Ghost workers’ ravaging the workforce in the state, the speaker informed the press that the situation has eaten deep into the fabrics of the workforce and explained that a special court has as well, been put in place to try those behind the ugly situation adding that offenders would soon be brought to book.
On the Internally Generated Revenue of the state, the Hon. Speaker said the joint meeting of the three arms also resolved that a special court be inaugurated to try and punish tax evaders accordingly.
Speaking during the briefing, Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Sir, Jude Ejiogu said that the administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha has resolved to build a strong and permanent revenue base for the state and urged those that are not tax compliant to refrain from such and urged people of the state to expose corrupt officials who compromise with individuals to evade tax payment.
Also speaking during the briefing, Chief Whip of the 8th House of Assembly and member representing, Ideato South State Constituency, Hon. Ikechukwu Amuka, said that it was resolved at the meeting that the Imo Security Network (ISN) be revamped and to be adequately equipped as to make it stronger to fight criminals as was the position before the 2015 general elections.
