A few days back, we promised to publish a counter response from the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma in response to the allegations by Barr.Rex Anumobi. In Anunobi’s statement, he alleged that he was kidnapped, assaulted, and brutalized during the Governorship/House of Assembly supplementary election in Omuma, Oru East L.G.A Imo State by as much as 15 hefty men acting on the orders of the Senator.
In an exclusive interview with IMO STATE BLOG, the Senator representing Orlu Senatorial zone dismissed the allegations as false and said that the story was concocted by Barr. Anunobi to tarnish his image and reputation while seeking favor from the Rochas Okorocha administration. He further challenged Anunobi to produce photo or video evidence showing injuries claimed to have been sustained from the said incident to buttress his allegations .
Speaking further, Chief Uzodinma said that on the contrary it was Barr.Anunobi who showed up at his polling booth 013 at Omuma in the company of some boys to disrupt the voting exercise in the ward which he said was known to be a predominantly PDP area.
The Senator pointed out that the driving distance between Anunobi’s hometown in Nkwerre Local Government to Omuma in Orlu Local Government is approximately anywhere from 35- 40 minutes. He said that Anunobi who was not an INEC official had no business at the polling unit in Omuma considering there was an imposed restriction on vehicular movements on that day.
According to Senator Uzodinma, when he confronted Barr. Rex Anunobi, and questioned his presence, Anunobi promised to leave but he did not do so. Responding to our probing questions on the said rescue operation that aborted the alleged kidnap, he vehemently denied that any of such incident occurred and again called on Anunobi to provide proof of injuries sustained from the beating he claimed he received on that day. He further said that Anunobi was spotted at a local bar that evening drinking in the company of his boys.
In very strong terms, Sen. Uzodinma expressed disappointment over what he described as a blackmail attempt by Barr. Anunobi considering that he had helped in establishing him over the years, adding that six months ago, he gave him a Range Rover as a gift.
