The Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has expressed profound and unflinching gratitude to the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, the good people of the state in general and prominent Nigerians who had stormed Owerri the state capital on Monday in what could rightly be described as two-million-people march to, not only appreciate him for his unprecedented good works in the state but to also pass a kind of vote of confidence in him during the unveiling of his intention to run for second term on the platform of APC.
The Governor shed tears of joy during the event because in the history of the state, the Monday event could be the first time the people of the state, known for their republican posture could troop out in such unequalled number to show gratitude to one man for his good works in the state.
Again, with what happened on Monday, it is no longer in doubt that Imo state is ninety-nine percent APC. The remaining one percent could be those who are lovers of themselves only. It is also gratifying to note that the mammoth crowd that took over the whole of Wetheral road and Dan Anyiam stadium came voluntarily without inducement and that could explain the reason they stayed from 9am to 6pm when the function ended with passion, excitement and smiles on their faces.
To say the least, with the intimidating crowd that heralded the governor’s declaration on Monday, one could argue and rightly too, that the governorship election in the state was conducted and won that day. And so also the other elections that will take place in the state.
The Monday event also showed that all the blackmails against the governor and his government by opponents have been falling on deaf ears.
The governor has also thanked the APC presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari, Asiwaji Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, APC National chairman, Chief John Oyegun, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Bola Saraki, Chief Tony Momoh and all the leaders of the party who came to join Imo people to celebrate their governor who has made them proud.
What Imo people did on Monday was truly to spur the governor for more actions. And since Imo people have demonstrated this level of gratitude, the governor would work more assiduously to sustain the confidence they have already reposed in him.
Finally, the governor is full of gratitude to the Almighty God whose unlimited grace had made the ceremony hitch-free from the beginning to the end.
