In a bid to provide transformed and secured environment for its citizenry the Imo State government has stated her determination to rescue the state from erosion problems.
The State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha made this known when he received Traditional Rulers of Erosion Devastated Areas of Orlu, Ideato North and Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Areas (LGAs) at the Government House Owerri.
Governor Okorocha who promised to pay the required Counter Part Fund needed to get work started at the four afore mentioned LGAs in a World Bank assisted Nigeria Erosion Control and Management Project (NEWMAP) said a technical committee comprising Traditional Rulers will be set up to over see the disbursement and execution of the project.
The State Chief executive highlighted some areas his administration had intervened in erosion control and management which include, the Onuimo –Ntueke erosion site which would have cut off the two communities, St. Theresa erosion site Orlu, and the dualization of Orlu –Ideato road which in addition checked the ravaging effect of erosion on that area. He further revealed that Rescue Administration had built 26 emergency centers with offices at Ohaji and Oguta LGAs as safety measures for lives and property’s in flood disaster, among others.
