IMO STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE
RE: OKOROCHA SET TO DUMP APC, CONSIDERS APGA, PPA, PDP
The New Telegraph newspaper had carried a front-page story with the above caption in the Monday, March 24, 2014 edition of the newspaper.
In the report, the writer said that Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha may soon dump the All Progressives congress, APC, and also concluded that the romance between the governor and the APC had gone sour, following indications that he was set to dump the party.
The writer did not also state why he felt that Governor Okorocha would want to dump the APC except that he claimed that the governor was not satisfied with the turnout in Imo and the South-East generally during the membership registration exercise of the party. Where did the writer get the information, he did not disclose, but only talked about indications. Since the writer did not quote any source and did not quote the Imo state Governor or anybody close to him as the source of his information, we have no option than to conclude that the writer allowed himself to be used by certain politicians in the opposition party in Imo state who have concluded that the only way they could make impact is by telling lies against Governor Okorocha or through cheap blackmail.
Governor Okorocha is now standing like a colossus in Imo politics with the level of what he has been able to achieve as governor and his opponents in the state have resorted to scratching him through such false reports him to see if they could help the situation, but they cannot.
By the time the results of the membership registration exercise carried out by the APC will be released, Nigerians will see that Imo people have emptied in APC leaving those who see politics as an article of trade to stay in the opposition party in the state. Luckily enough, the registrations were done in persons and not through proxies.
Again, one would also be forced to ask what is the attractions in the PDP or in PPA or in APGA that Governor Okorocha would abandon a strong and vibrant party like APC to join any of them, having been one of the leading lights in the information of APC and what it is today.
It is important to note that Governor Okorocha has become a very attractive figure in Nigeria politics, south – East politics and Imo politics today, and those threatened by such enviable personality have been responsible for all these gossips against the Imo governor.
The truth of the matter is that Governor Okorocha cannot leave APC for any reason with a lot of people across the nation looking up to him in APC. He cannot contemplate joining PDP, PPA, and APGA put together. So, that report was fictitious and frivolous. And should be seen and regarded as such.
