Governor Rochas Okorocha has revealed plans to review the Government Liaison Office (GLO) Structure to function as the business arm of the 4th tier government of his administration.
Governor Okorocha disclosed this at a meeting with Government Liaison Officers of the 305 communities of the state at the Ahiajoku Conference Centre Owerri.
Owelle Okorocha who noted that government established the liaison offices to give communities direct link with state government, urged the officers to ensure that Community Government Councils (CGC) are effective.
He charged the Liaison Officers to use their position to attract investments and development in their various communities as government is ready to provide the needed support.
The Governor reminded them of the forth-coming CGC election scheduled to hold in the state and charged them to ensure a free and fair conduct of the elections. He said that government will approve council of GLOs in every Local Government Area to take decisions on behalf of the LGA.
He further disclosed that GLOs will be provided with customized vehicle plate numbers as well as plans to change Government official plate numbers to guard against fraud by those who refuse to surrender government plate Numbers after they had left office.
A Government Liaison Officer, Chief Ken Aneme from Isu Local Government Area commended the Governor for assigning them with such responsibilities and appealed for necessary official back up.
He however expressed concern over the constitution of the community vigilante groups and called for overhaul of the system to ensure that persons of dubious character are not allowed as members.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, some Commissioner and members of the expanded Executive Council who are Liaison Officers of their respective communities.
