The Imo State Government has dissolved all committees involved in rural roads construction and rehabilitation in the State. This formed part of the decision of the Imo State Executive Council recently.
Briefing Newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Owerri,the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. Theodore Ekechi said that the rural road projects will be directly supervised by the Office of the Governor because of the importance the administration attaches to the rural road projects to ensure that quality and timely jobs are delivered by the contractors.
Dr. Ekechi disclosed that the Executive Council has approved funds for the take-off of Okporo College of Nursing and Health Technology in Orlu and the sum of N63 million approved for the commencement of work at the College of Education Technical located at Ihitte Uboma.
He said that the Council has approved the immediate purchase of chemicals for laboratories in Secondary Schools to help them in their on-coming examinations in order to boost students’ performance in science education.
The Information boss disclosed that the EXCO has directed that the Adult Education Centers in all the 27 LGAs be fully equipped for quality education programme as well as give the Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICAPS) support to continue sustaining the international standard it is known for.
Dr. Ekechi said that plans are underway to send about 50 to 100 non-partisan industrialists in the State to Turkey to facilitate the establishment of Industries in the State. He however noted that the selection for the trip will be fully advertised for viable business operators and selection purely on merit.
Other decisions according to the Commissioner include the empowerment scheme to assist people in the communities on income creation while the Imo Vigilante Group will be trained to keep them proactive on security issues.
Commissioner Ekechi however, reacted to the attack made by a member of the Federal Executive Council, Prof. Viola Onwuliri on the Rescue Mission Government and described her claims as simply unsubstantial and an exhibition of gross lack of information.
He advised the Federal Minister as a good citizen of Imo State who wants the best for her people, to take a tour of the State government projects before coming up with her conclusions. “I think PDP is rattled, they are shattered. PDP is so overwhelmed at the successes of the present administration. This is why they criticize the government with the aim of blackmailing it. I leave the judgment to the conscience of Imo people.” He concluded.
