The attention of the Imo State Government has again be drawn to the unpatriotic activities of some owners of the hostels around the Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo, and few of their collaborators from the area to cause another trouble in the area with the aim of disrupting the activities and programmes of the Institution.
Information at our disposal at the moment is that these elements have begun to re-group, have sworn to cause problem in the institution and disrupt its academic programmes using the multi- campus policy of the government on the institution as an excuse.
The multi-campus status accorded to the Institution has come to stay. It is a creation of the needed law, and there is nothing anybody can do about it. The state government came up with that policy in the over-all interest of the education loving people of the state.
Most of the Institutions in Nigeria operate multi-campuses. And the government does not see any reason some people, out of greed, should be causing trouble over that, just to serve their selfish purposes.
It is also important to state categorically that the State Government has not found the Rector of the Institution, Rev. Fr. [Dr] Wence Madu wanting in any way, and of course, the multi-campus policy was not his idea or creation, but the idea of the state government and the creation of the enabling law. And the Rector has not been found operating outside the scope of his assignments or responsibilities.
Finally, it is important to advice those behind the problem at Umuagwo vis-à-vis the Imo Polytechnic, not to take the patience or tolerance of the state government for granted. Indeed, they should not mistake the calmness of the state government over the disturbances in the area as weakness.
The security Agencies have been alerted of these fresh moves by these enemies of the state and her people. And those who have decided to take the laws into their hands by disturbing the long-existing peace of the Institution in particular and Umuagwo people in general should have themselves to blame if they do not caution themselves and allow peace to reign.
A word, they say, should be enough for the wise. For to be forewarned is to be forearmed.
