His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has given reasons why he okayed the appointment of the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Eze Duruiheoma (SAN) as the chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC at the Council of State meeting last Tuesday, when he was called by President Goodluck Jonathan to comment on the choice, as the home governor of the appointee, saying that he supported the appointment for the love of Imo people in particular and Ndi-Igbo in general.
The governor said some people at the meeting could have expected him to say no to the appointment, without knowing how much we needed it, no matter who is there, adding that Eze Duruiheoma has been a responsible man all through his life and a good Imo man, and he would not have opposed his appointment because he is in PDP and he in APC.
Governor Okorocha said moreover, he is the governor of every Imo man or woman and not just the governor of APC members only advising that people should endeavour to differentiate leadership from politics, adding that even if his worst enemy had been given the appointment and is an Imo person he would have also supported him, and that the corporate interest of the people should not be mixed up with party politics.
He wished Chief Duruiheoma a successful tenure as the chairman of NPC.
