The attention of the Imo State government has been drawn to His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Presidential Campaign posters that have been pasted in some state capitals including Owerri and some campaign organisations that have also sprung up for the governor’s presidential bid, equally in some states.
Following all these developments, we have been inundated by calls from well meaning Nigerians inquiring to know our position on all these, and this is what we intend to do in this regard.
It is no longer news that Governor Rochas Okorocha is highly keen in running for the presidency of the country in the 2015 election, because of his passion to make Nigerians also experience the same transformation he has carried out in Imo State in less than three years.
But the truth of the matter is that, the governor has not made any official pronouncement on his presidential ambition. He has not also printed campaign posters to that effect. And has not set up any campaign organisation for that reason.
However,, we are aware that most Nigerians across the states especially the youths have been very enthusiastic about the governor’s aspiration and some of them, to show their seriousness had gone ahead to form groups and had also gone ahead to print posters at no cost to the governor or to his government.
We have also refused to host some of the groups that had written to pay courtesy visits to inform us of what they are doing or to urge the governor to fire on.
At the appropriate time, the governor will announce the result of the consultations he had embarked on four months ago on his ambition to run for the presidency, and he will make a statement and other necessary actions will follow.
We appreciate the unbridled interest his aspiration has elicited throughout the country and appreciate those who have gone out of their ways to do one thing or the other to encourage the Imo State governor on his aspiration to offer the nation visionary and people oriented leadership.
