Traditional rulers in Imo condemn attack on Okorocha’s convoy by Eugene Dibiagwu’s campaign team.

Traditional Rulers in Imo State have condemned the attack on the convoy of the state governor,Owelle Rochas Okorocha by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP candidate for the rescheduled Oguta assembly seat election, Hon Eugene Dibiagwu and his supporters at Awa community of Oguta LGA.

A group led by Dibiagwu had last Saturday laid ambush on Gov. Okorocha’s convoy while on road project inspection in the local government with the convoy motorcycle rider knocked down and his radio communication gadget forcefully collected from him by the attackers.

The chairman of the state Council of Traditional rulers, HRM Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri who made the condemnation on Sunday after an emergency meeting with Oguta traditional rulers, lamented on why some people in the state have suddenly decided to take the governor’s humility for granted by always obstructing his convoy at any slightest opportunity.

He noted that though Gov. Okorocha and Hon Eugene Dibiagwu remain Imo sons, the governor remains the chief security officer of the state and should be accorded the due respect and recognition, pointing out that Imo traditional rulers would not condone a situation where someone will engage in acts capable of embarrassing or threatening the life of the governor.

The monarch, popularly addressed as Eze Imo, also frowned at the act of snatching the communication gadget of the rider attached to the governor, describing the action as security breach as those in possession will be monitoring his movement. He however,commended the governor for showing high level of maturity in handling the matter as it was his wisdom that saved the day. The monarch, however, charged the Oguta royal fathers to investigate the incidence with a view to finding out the circumstance that led to the unpatriotic act by Dibiagwu and his supporters.

In his response,the Chairman Oguta Council of Traditional Rulers,HRH Eze Ignatius Aso expressed their displeasure over the development and apologized to the governor on behalf of the Oguta traditional council on the embarrassment suffered in their domain. He assured that they will summon Dibiawu to ascertain the rationale behind such action against the governor after which they would get back to the leadership of the state traditional council.

The chairman ,Orlu zonal council, HRH Eze Emmanuel Okeke on behalf of the people of the zone also apologized to the governor over the incident and assured that the royal fathers in the zone would definitely apportion blame to whoever that is guilty.
