IMO STATE: Is it FREE or FLEECE education? – By Ezeji Uhi

The Imo Trumpeta recently published a report titled “Fresh Troubles for IMSU VC As Students Plan Mass Protest .Accreditation Leads to Mass Failure in Law Faculty”. Embedded in the article was a comment by a member of the Student Union Government.

The article reads :

“Speaking to Imo Trumpeta on the alleged street protests, one of the leaders of IMSU Students Union Government, SUG, who pleaded anonymity said that it was unfortunate that all the promises made by Gov Okorocha to IMSU students have not been fulfilled, nothing that the students are no longer comfortable with the situation of things. He stated that the fees paid by students during the previous regime was far much better that the present school fees, adding that the N100,000 cheques was a pretentious way of increasing the school fees by the governor.

The SUG leader further affirmed that based on this development, students of the institution have made up their mind to embark on street protests, beginning from today. He described as callous the idea of compelling students to play N20,000 in order to make the cheques valid, stressing that such act is fraudulent. The student leader however advised the governor to have a rethink on his free education at tertiary levels, noting that it is better to reduce the school fees to an affordable rate, than deceiving the masses”.

I have been reading this IMO STATE BLOG not for too long but for the short time that I have been coming here, people in order to help clarify the controversy around Gov. Rochas Okorocha’s “free education” program, have been seeking feedback from a legitimate IMSU student. Now we have it.

The question I have for Rochas is, are you implementing free education or fleecing education?
