Formerly known as Township primary school, the Owerri city school is located on Wetheral Road. In this progress report, we will show you pictures of what it looked like before the Okorocha administration came on board and what it looks like now.

Old building structure

Pupils learning in class…

Break time…..
Last year in October, Governor Rochas Okorocha announced that arrangements had been concluded to build 305 European standard schools in each of the INEC wards in the state.
Barely 12 months after, IMO STATE BLOG can authoritatively confirm that over 100 schools are off the ground pending finishing touches. The new Owerri City School is designed to accomodate both Primary and Secondary School children.

Parking lot…

The administrative block towers above the classroom buildings…

Each class seats 30 students.
For sports activities, the school has a 400-metre track, basketball court, football field and 2 tennis tables.

In a discussion with Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr.Chinedu Offor, he disclosed that the other schools will be built similar to what we have at the Owerri city school. It is expected that by April 2013, the projects would be completed across the state however, it doesn’t end with the buildings. Students attending these public schools will also receive free school uniforms at no charge courtesy of the Okorocha administration. The sample batch has already been distributed in some schools.
Typically when something good is about to happen, the devil looks for a way to disrupt. It might interest you to know that when the shipment of uniforms arrived, they were seized for many weeks. It took the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan who graciously stepped in to order the release.
On Thursday, the imported uniforms, book, shoes , socks and other supplies will be distributed to students in the state.

Vita Nwanna, does it matter what sign it is? If he likes he can use Rochas sign, Ewu Sign, Ndii sign, it doesn’t matter. What we should be concerned with is the provision of the promised projects in accordance with the specified quality. IMO MUST LEAD AND OTHERS FOLLOW

Vitalis, I can see that you don’t like good things. We are talking of the good work Owelle is doing and you are talking of Roche sign board.

This is an innovation like never seen. The Owerri City School is a marvel to behold. Great innovation by Owelle Rochas Okorocha. But 305 is not yet off the ground. In the community Primary School Anara, site for the one Rochas school in Osuama-Anara Ward, the land is still at the clearing stage. Not yet a trip of sand or concrete. But the Owerri City School is tangible and cannot be flawed by any reasonable Imolite. To this gift we can only say. LETS DO MORE. Kudos to Owelle, Long Live Imo State. Imo Must be better.

Where are those haters of good things that evil will continue to follow? Where are those paid critics and pipers that sheepishly lets their payers dictate the tone? Are u all trying to bury and hide your faces in shame? Unless u come out and commend good things, good things will always elude u.

@ Ajaero, similar structure means prototype not 12 classroom block, does it mean dis one is for sampling? All d electorates don’t liv in owerri. And pls tell owelle dat my village primary sch has only 3 teachers from ohakim till now almost 2 yrs of he owelle admistration, I didn’t any change dia. There r enuf private schs in owerri to mak up for d people in owerri. Only 1 township sch won’t be enuf for d whole imo children…I’m not a critic but I’m just being real

I am dumbfounded viewing this. While I thank Rochas for his fit. I shall also thank Joi for making this viewing pleasure available to us. We can now and judge by our selves. Atleast we have one Nigerian in the person of Rochas who knows that Imo deserves better. He is leaving his marks on the prints of Imo progress. God bless you my dear governor.

I genuinely commend Governor Okorocha for embarking on this project. A beautiful and warm school environment will surely go along way in keeping the children in school and boost their confidence towards education. However, I would ask that Owelle reconsiders the vast importation of school materials that his government currently imports from some overseas destination. If sourcing for these things locally adds even only 100 jobs to Imo economy it will be 100 persons that would ordinarily have left Nigeria, become kidnappers et al or roam the streets hopelessly. Governor, please as a popular UK supermarket chain would say “EVERY LITTLE HELPS”.

Please God bless the owelle for this wonderful master piece.DId you all see those kids on the floor learning. At this age and time. Now compare it with the classroom chairs provided by the Governor. The Governor is replicating classrooms abroad.
What did Ikedi do to touch the lives of children who sit on the floor to learn, would he subject his child to such a condition.
God bless the Governor, who say I’m no try make I’m build one school dash I’m community

The way imolites insult fellow imolites in this site is very worrisome. Because of Jege, Imo is divided. One school and everybody is thanking God. There are hundreds of this type of school in River State still life goes on.

If a woman means anything to you, including your mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt etc, please take a look at that advert or bill board. Rochas with students all boys! Where are the girls? The likely interpretation of this advert is that there is no gender equity in Imo State. There is tendency to gloss it over, but as a woman it is an unacceptable. Who do we blame for this oversight? Rochas or his aides in charge of publicity who probably must have felt that girls don’t deserve to be projected? For an onlooker, the interpretation of this advert is that girls don’t matter. For crying out loud, this can sit well the North but not in Imo State one of the educationally advanced state where girl child school enrollment surpasses that of boy-child. Umunnem, if you are upto date, correct me if am wrong. Please, Rochas change this advert and include girls. It will portray gender equity and a good image of your government. Moreover, this is 21st century, girls matter a great deal these days. Remember, women votes counted in your victory as Governor of Imo State. Imo will be better. Wishing all a happy and prosperous new year.
