Governor Rochas Okorocha has rewarded the Imo born paralympic Gold Medalist, Miss Lovelyn Obiji with a piece of land and a brand new car. The governor made the pronouncement at the government house, Owerri when he received two Imo athletes that participated at the just concluded London Paralympics Olympic games.
Governor Okorocha extended the gesture to Mr. Luke Onwumeribe, the coach of the gold medalist who will also get a piece of land. Governor Rochas Okorocha further stated that, Imo State are endowed with talents and stars especially in the area of football and other sporting activities and pleaded with the sports administrators to give preference to Imo in all sporting activities so as to bring more medals for the country in future games. He urged the Federal government not to apply federal character in sports but to give preference to those with outstanding talents and ability.
Governor Okorocha stated that owing to poverty of the people in the state, he decided to give free education from primary to university levels so that people with disability and the poor will have the opportunity and access to education. The governor also assured sports men and women in Imo state who have excelled in various capacities of government desire to honour them in no distant time as a morale booster.
In a vote of thanks by the gold medalist, Miss. Lovelyn Obiji thanked Governor Rochas Okorocha for the honor done to them and the blessings of gift given to them and assured that they will bring more laurels for the state in future sporting events both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.
