Governor Rochas Okorocha, who turned fifty last Saturday, September 22, 2012, came back to Imo State from economic trip to the United States of America with a heroic welcome.
Sam Mbakwe Airport was besieged with a sea of people who had gone to welcome the Governor from what was described as a successful economic trip where so much had been attracted for the development of Imo State especially in the area of tourism and Entertainment with Film making as well.
Governor Okorocha in response promised to continue with his promise of free education and infrastructural development to Imo people whom he owes all. The Governor further revealed that over two hundred and fifty thousand school uniforms for Imo pupils and students are ready with their sandals, lockers and seats. He further said that others will be completed before the ending of December 2012.
He reiterated Rescue Mission Government’s resolve to go on with the building of three five star hotels in the three Senatorial zones saying the foundation laying ceremony for Okigwe five-star hotel will be on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Governor Okorocha further said that people dismissed his promise of free education with a mere wave of hand. He however averred that free education from primary to Imo State owned tertiary institutions will be achieved to the latter. Governor Okorocha which had been hitherto been said to be impossible by the immediate past PDP led Government.
It would be recalled that prior the 2011 elections, pre election debate was held at Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, education had topped the agenda of each aspirant. PDP Government led by Ikedi Ohakim vowed that free education was never possible anywhere in the world while the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha said it was possible saying he was surprised aspirants were saying it was not possible. It was at Assumpta he described himself as the commander of free education and at the inception of office he kept his promise.
Meanwhile, while answering questions to the newsmen on the reason for his trip to the United States, Governor Okorocha said he had gone on a trip to further seek partnerships to help develop Imo State. He revealed that he had met with Jimmy Carter, the former President of the United on a partnership with his foundation in the area of education and tourism, which he described as successful. The Governor said he had also met with Coronary Institute of Miami for hospitality administration and services education.
Governor Okorocha further said that he was in Washington where he addressed Black Congressional Caucus on the utilization of Gas deposit in Imo State for Energy vis-a-vis electricity, which he described as the nucleus for the development of any modern State.
The Imo Governor disclosed that Sheila Jackson Lee, the representative of Houston, Texas will be leading a team of Gas and Energy Experts to Imo State to kick start a process of developing the Gas and Energy sector for which Imo State is richly endowed.
Governor Okorocha however said he also met with Isaiah Washington, one of the foremost American actors with other actors alike where they discussed how to develop Imo Blue Lake of Treasure as a film village.
Governor Okorocha, however, called on the people of Imo State to exercise patience and till the rains subsides to have their road networks already receiving attention completed. He explained that the forecast already showed the heavy downpour being witnessed today. He assured of Imo Rescue Mission’s poise to finish the projects on the precast school buildings and twenty-seven General Hospitals in Imo State.
