Governor Rochas has honoured his word to empower keke operators in Imo State with the interest free revolving loan of TEN million naira we reported recently. The cheque was handed over to the executives of the Keke operators at the Government House.
His Excellency who was represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban planning, Hon.Uche Nwosu described the loan as a positive measure being taken to assist in changing their lives for the better. Hon. Uche Nwosu urged the beneficiaries to pay back to the Union at the end of the stipulated time for others to also benefit. According to him, the loan will assist them to repair their Keke, foot their bills for any member under hire purchase and take care of other pressing problems. He also cautioned for the judicious and prudent management of the interest-free loan stating that it will be unfair to abuse the benevolence and magnanimity of the governor.
Hon. Nwosu said such money in the past would have been used to service one political godfather or more, but because the governor is not answerable to any person except the masses who massively voted for him. He also announced the commencement of the free petrol for them, which was stopped for some unknown reasons. Continuing, he warned them to beware of critics of the governor who are desperate to heat –up the state explaining that such politicians do not mean well for our dear state.
“They only storm the state to cause trouble after that they will bounce back to their base in Abuja, leaving the people to suffer and the government to struggle to find its feat”, Nwosu stated.
Adding his voice, the Special Assistant to the governor on non-formal sector, Mr. Stanley dike described it as a promise made and fulfilled, noting that it is part of their experience of true democracy dividends in the rescue mission government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha. Mr. Dike also used the opportunity to urge the keke operators to help checkmate security lapses as disgruntled elements from the opposition camp have vowed to destabilize the state.
Responding, the Chairman of the Keke operators, Mr. Austin Chikere who received the cheque on behalf of the association expressed gratitude to the Governor for fulfilling his word and promised that the loan will be utilized prudently.
This action by His Excellency is a big slap on the faces of all naysayers.
