In line with the agricultural transformation and grass-roots development policy of the present administration aimed at bringing the importation of agro products into Imo State to zero percent, the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning has intensified efforts towards acquiring more than five hundred (500) hectares of land in Ideato North and Okigwe LGAs for rice and palm plantation respectively.
The lands are designated for the Imo-Thai Agro Project.
Speaking during one of the meetings between the Ministry and the host communities, the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Uche Nwosu assured the people that the Ministry was ready to conduct the claims/perimeter survey of the areas, prepare documents for the Deed Registry and pay adequate compensation for the original land owners. This he said would enable the foreign investors who have already worked out a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State government under the name Imo-Thai Agro Project to commence work immediately.
