Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo receives N7.8m worth of Books in donation.

An organization known as Doroena Books Acquisition Centre has donated textbooks and Journals worth N7.8m to the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo as part of its corporate social responsibility aimed at promoting Governor Okorocha’s FREE  Education Programme in Imo State.

Presenting the books, the Chairman of the group, Mr. Isdore Nwagwu represented by Mr. Ben Osuigwe explained that the donation was in line with the rescue mission agenda of the governor and his free education policy. Mr. Osuigwe also stated that the company deemed it necessary to contribute its quota to the success of education in the state by donating state-of-the-Art education materials to the Institution.

Receiving the items, Imo State commission for Education, Prof. Mrs. Adaobi Obasi thanked the Doroena Books Acquisition Centre for the donation. She also said that this was the first time the state had received such gift from donors within the country. The Commissioner also urged the Rector of the Polytechnic. Rev. Fr. Wence Madu to make sure that the books are made available in the school library for teachers and students to make proper use of them.

The Rector of the Polytechnic expressed appreciation and assured that the books will be put in use immediately. He added that the donation came at the time they are expecting a team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation of some science courses in the school, adding that being current edition of books and journals will help in getting those courses accredited. He further expressed his gratitude to the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha on the total transformation of the institution. The Rector also pleaded that funding of the education should not be left to government alone, soliciting for good spirited individuals to support the Rescue Mission Agenda on education.
