Over 700 unemployed fresh Engineers in Imo State engaged by Gov.Okorocha.

According to a press statement from the Government House, about 750 of our unemployed fresh engineers in Imo  have been engaged by Gov.  Rochas Okorocha under Imo Young Engineers Corp (IYEC).

 

Unveiling the programme at Ahiajoku Convention Centre, Owerri, Gov. Okorocha said the programme was designed to create a sustainable and specialized manpower development platform that will positively engage the teeming unemployed graduates of Imo state. The Governor explained that the young engineers would be retained at the newly established Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICAPS) to enhance their skill and deployed to the relevant establishments and contractors handling state projects under a special job placement scheme.

He stated that under the IYEC programme, the state government and contractors would pay monthly stipend to the engineers while IYEC would be registered as a construction company to partner in the development of the state.

 

In Governor Okorocha’s words:

 “I will partner with you in the business of developing our dear state. IYEC will be registered and equipped as a construction company for you to manage. You can imagine what your future will be when you start handling road projects from our state and other states of the federation. Infact, that is my dream for you. Don’t forget that the present administration has touched lives through human capacity building with the state employing about six thousand Imo youths into the education sector and Imo Palm Plantation.”

Gov. Okorocha added that IYEC would be used to develop Oguta Blue Lake of Treasure as well as develop the proposed housing estate as part of government commitment to promote local content in governance. He disclosed plans by his administration to establish agro-industries in the state towards creating more job opportunities and promote agricultural programmes through the Community Government Council. He further explained that  though his administration has planned to spend 250 Billion Naira on infrastructural development within four years, it had also articulated people-oriented policies and programmes that will impact positively on the lives of Imo people.
