Governor Okorocha intervenes on FUTO land dispute with host community.

Governor Okorocha’s Media office reports that His Excellency has intervened on the hostility between the management of Federal University of Technology (FUTO) and its host community over land dispute. He also called on individuals and groups in the country to avoid confrontation in the face of provocations but to adopt the mechanism of peaceful resolution.

According to a memo made available to IMO STATE BLOG, the Governor  made this call while addressing the chairman and members of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Governing Council led by its Chairman, Engr. Vitalis Abba, when they paid him a courtesy call at the Government House Owerri. In response to their complaint, he directed the Commissioner for Special Duties in the state, Dr. Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, to liaise with the two groups on amicable solution to the dispute. He also advised the FUTO management to embark on the fencing of their premises to avoid further encroachment from land speculators.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the Governing Council, Engr. Vitalis Abba recalled that during the administration of Brigadier Ike Nwachukwu in Imo state, the present site was donated to FUTO but regretted that large expanse of the school land is being encroached by outsiders, especially, the host community. He thanked the Governor for embarking on massive road construction, which the school is also benefiting from, pledging that FUTO would continue to partner with Imo state government in its policies and programmes.
