Bethel Amadi’s election as Pan African Speaker, an added impetus for democracy – DPS Ekweremadu

 

The Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has congratulated Hon. Bethel Amadi on his election as the new  Speaker of the Pan African Parliament.

 

Senator Ekweremadu who is also the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate described Hon Amadi’s election as an added impetus for democracy not only in the West African sub-region, but Africa in general.

 

“This, coming particularly at a trying period for democracy in West Africa in Mali and Guinea Bissau is indeed good news for democracy in the sub-region and a collective opportunity for us as a people to continue to play visible role in the sustenance of democratic rule, good governance, and development on the African continent”, the Speaker said.

 

 

He urged the newly elected Speaker to join forces with the peoples of West Africa to ensure that the gains made in the democratisation of the sub-region were sustained.
