Our Spotlight guest for the week is Barr.Chris Okewulonu.
Barr. Okewulonu has had the rare distinction of serving as Secretary to State Government under two Executive Governors of Imo State. (Achike Udenwa & Ikedi Ohakim)
He attended Government College Umuahia and Imo State University where he obtained an LL.B (Hons) Degree in 1985. The following year (1986) Barr. Okewulonu was called to the Nigerian Bar . He enjoyed a vigorous legal practice, rising in 1988 to the position of Managing Counsel in the law firm of Sam Mbakwe and Company.
He forayed into national politics and got elected into the Imo State House of Assembly in 1991 to represent the Obowo State Constituency. While at the House, he served in the Committee on Justice, Judiciary and Law Review. He was also served as Secretary of the House Committee on Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
He has, since then, been in the service of the nation in increasing capacities including as Executive Assistant on Political Matters to Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo State; Imo State Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport; Chairman of the Imo State Oil Derivation Fund Project Committee; Commissioner for Information and Culture; and Secretary to the State Government.
It is from this background of private legal practice, legislative experience and profound public sector exposure that Chris Okewulonu was appointed by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua into the Fiscal Responsibility Commission as the Commissioner representing the South-East Geo-political zone. He heads the Legal, Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
