Imo State is willing to partner with international agencies and the World Bank to tackle and solve the menace of erosion and other environmental problems affecting the development of the state.
Gov. Rochas Anayo Okorocha who stated this in Abuja during a meeting of the Federal Ministry of Environment and international organizations lamented that gully erosion has devastated several parts of the state and has affected the life and culture of the people.
“Gully erosion is threatening my home in the village and those of other Imolites so I am personally affected by this problem” he said.
Gov. Okorocha called for massive tree planting campaign as a permanent solution to the issue. He expressed appreciation to the agencies working to check all environmental problems especially in the south east. He called for cooperation by all affected agencies to ensure a sustainable strategy to permanently solve the problem.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Environment said the south eastern states are worst hit by the problem and called for increased funding to the affected states.
“ I plead for haste in implementing approved projects as several villages have be sacked by these erosion menace”. he said.
