OJUKWU BURIAL: Aba stands still for Governor Okorocha

The commercial city of Aba, on Tuesday was at a stand-still for Gov. Okorocha as soon as the governor and his entourage stormed Enyimba stadium to pay a tribute to the departed Igbo Leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu at the Abia segment of the multiple burial rites marking the final journey of the late hero.

Though the Gov. Okorocha did not speak at the event organized by the government of Abia State, the crowd however showered ovation and praises when the governor entered and departed the venue.

They also accompanied his convoy out of the venue chanting solidarity songs as a mark of honour as an outstanding and selfless Igbo Leader.

While some praised him for the transformation agenda that has turned Imo to a model and shining state in Nigeria, others eulogized him for honouring the departed Igbo Leader with a befitting burial ceremony in Owerri.

It would be recalled that Gov. Okorocha on assumption of office
initiated Ikemba Ojukwu Convention Center and Heroes Square as landmark projects to honour the departed APGA National Leader.

The late Ikemba Ojukwu was slated to be the first Igbo man to sleep in the ‘Merit House’ of the Ikemba Ojukwu Convention Centre before his demise.

On receiving the body of Ojukwu at the Sam Mbakwe Airport on Monday, Gov. Okorocha led the motorcade to Government House where the body in a golden brown casket was driven on a motorized cart to Ikemba Ojukwu Convention Centre.

A resolution passed by the Imo State House of Assembly allowing the remains of Ojukwu to sleep at the Convention Centre was handed over to Gov. Okorocha by the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Benjamin Uwajimogu before it was finally moved to Heroes Square for the ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, the body was returned to the Convention Center where it slept over before taken to Aba.
