Governor Okorocha responds to rumours about the London Met Police arrest.

Speaking with Journalists at the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport shortly on arrival from Abuja,  Governor Okorocha addressed the   rumour that filled the air on his last visit to London. As we can recollect, it was rumoured that the Governor was arrested on  money laundering charges by the London Met Police.

The story appeared to have been validated by the Governor’s absence at  Ojukwu’s funeral service over the weekend in Zungeru. A response from Chinedu Offor, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media cleared the air.

Back to the Press briefing…

Responding to the allegation, Governor Okorocha said that the stories were  orchestrated by ndi “uta” (enemies of the state who were out to blackmail him.)

“The rumour circulated through sms that I was quizzed in London over 10 million Dollars is unfounded and another blackmail by those who fought me during the electioneering period.  They are the same people who at the wake of my election rumoured that I had stepped down”, Gov. Okorocha said.

Gov. Okorocha explained that his mission in London was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with UK-based Company to float a state government owned airline that will be known as Imo Air. While he attributed the rumour to the handiwork of some displaced individuals who are plotting to return to government House through the back door, Gov. Okorocha enjoined the people of Imo state to remain calm and law-abiding even in the face of provocations as   Justice and fairness will prevail at the end of the day.

“I believe this latest attack on me is basically because of the Judgment we are expecting at the Supreme Court. I have not seen where blackmail and rumour-mongering translate to mandate or victory.  I have implicit confidence on the Judiciary to dispense Justice and fairness over the matter, the governor concluded. ”

From this response, it is safe to assume that Governor Okorocha is also indirectly challenging anyone who has proof to counter his statement to come forward.

IMO STATE BLOG hereby uses this medium to reach out to anyone with  proof that will substantiate the  reported “incident” in London.  Please be advised that any information submitted will be verified before we publish.
