The people of Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State have vowed to vote against the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate come Saturday’s re-run election for Ahazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency. This they said was as a result of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s current policy on the Relocation of the Imo State University to his home town in Ideato South L.G.A.
This was the resolution at a stakeholders meeting of Ezinihitte Mbaise people held Okpofe Town Hallin Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo State.
Speaking at the occasion, the former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Dr. Alex Obi remarked that it was a great insult to the Mbaise nation from Governor Okorocha for abandoning the permanent site of the institution allegedly located by the Mbakwe administration to Aboh Mbaise and Ngor-Okpala to relocate it to Ogboko his home town.
Further in his resentment over the policy, Dr Obi who is currently a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state had this to say:
‘We all contributed to Gov Okorocha’s victory at the last election. In fact I was the driver of the vehicle that crushed the PDP. But now, we must say no to injustice. I am a chieftain of the ACN but this time, we must throw away party affiliations and vote for Mbaise and Owerri Zone interest. Even Senator Chri Anyanwu who is in the Governor’s APGA has strongly and openly condemned this relocation.
‘, My former boss Ex-Governor Achike Udenwa who is also from Orlu did not relocate the university to his zone…. Even Ikedi Ohakim who was my enemy also did not do it during his time either. Therefore, since Gov Okorocha is bent on relocating the school by force, this is now the time Mbaise people should show their anger. We must all vote for Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe of the PDP. Enough is enough!…’.
In their different remarks at the occassion, the Deputy Speaker House of Representative, Hon Emeka Ihedioha and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Prof Viola Onwuliri said that Hon. Igbokwe’s current partnership with the leadership of the green chamber and his position as the House Committee Deputy Chairman on Federal Capital Territory would be a great advantage to the constituency if he is voted back to the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the event was not a good one for the Imo State Commissioner for utilities and Rural Development Dr. Iheanyi Nwachukwu. The youthful commissioner who is also from the same area had earlier stormed the venue of the gathering with two mobile policemen and some youths to stop the event claiming that he had earlier scheduled a meeting with some youths of his community at the same venue and at the same. However, this was strongly resisted by the crowd made up of PDP members and other stakeholders in the area. Hell would have been let loosed when one of the youths in company of the commissioner slapped the PDP State Treasurer Arch. Magnus Chilaka with the commissioner’s orderly shooting sporadically.
However, with the arrival of men of the State Security Service, the military and other security agencies, the commissioner and his group were over-powered. Consequently, an attempt by the already angered crowd to lynch the commissioner and burn his official vehicle saw the commissioner and his group taking to their heels for safety. Subsequently there was calm throughout the remaining part of the event.
Also at the occasion were Chief Olisah Metuh, Air Commodore Like Ochulor (Rtd), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Eze Duruiheoma, Senator Matthew Nwagwu, Engr. Chilaka Okwuonu and Hon. (Mrs) Ngozi Pat Ekeji Others were Hon. Ernest Ibajiako, Dr. Obioma Ekennia, Senator Bright Nwanne a host of many stakeholders from Mbaise and beyond.
