The immediate past Deputy Governor of Imo State Dr. (Mrs.) Ada Okwuonu, has advised Igbos whose investments are still located outside the South Eastern part of the country to relocate them to the south East immediately so as to prevent frequent destruction of their lives and properties during crises in the country.
Dr. Okwuonu stated this during the inauguration of the newly executives of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) recently held at the Nike Lake Resort Enugu.
Lamenting over the incessant killings of the Igbos and destruction of properties each time there was crises in the country, the Ex Dep Gov. who was the chairman of the occasion, berated investors from the zone who still prefer sitting their investment outside Igbo land. ‘Igbo business men and women should relocate their investments to IgboLand so as to run away from being victims of crises and come and improve the economy of their area. Our Land is safe and rich both in natural and human resources and I don’t know why our people should not invest in their area’.
Dr. Okwuonu enjoined the Igbos to emulate notable Igbo leaders like the Late Zik, M. I. Okpara and Ojukwu. She said that Zik attracted theUniversity of Nigeria to the South East while Okpara improved the economy of the area through what she described as ‘radical activities in the area of agriculture, tourism and industrialization in Igbo land’. On his own part, she described the Late Ikemba of Nnewi as the person, who sensitized the people of the area on their identity and created in them the spirit of oneness and courage.
While commending ECCIMA on its successful host of the South East Economic Summit late last year, she enjoined every citizen of the country to embrace peace and support President Jonathan’s economic transformation agenda which she said, was a sure way of improving the economy of the country.
